Turned the art of cooking to a profitable business
How it ALL Began...
In April of 2008, the Lord started speaking to me about my "gift", cooking. One weekend in June, I finally obeyed and set up a BBQ tent at the Market City Flea Market, property owned by my church, Embassies of Christ, and the rest is history.
My wife, children, and I went out there with one grill, selling only rib tips. A few weeks later we had to purchase more grills, and hire additional staff. We now have a full menu consisting of Pork, Beef, and Turkey products. Because of God's "OVERFLOW", in April of 2009, we were able to lease commercial space, and totally renovate it into what is now Big Daddy's BBQ Restaurant. While building the restaurant, Big Daddy's continued to operate on weekends at the Flea Market, including the winter months.
I take this time to first of all, give thanks to God, and thank him for my Pastors, Cedric and Joyce Oliver. As Pastor Cedric Oliver would say, "OVERFLOW". My life has changed tremendously since I've been under their leadership.
Big Daddy’s BBQ was voted for, and received Steve Harvey’s #1 BBQ Neighborhood Award in 2010; was nominated in 2011 and 2012, and won again in 2013! Big Daddy was a special guest on Steve Harvey’s TV Talk Show in September of 2012, where he featured his famous BBQ Sauce and Turkey Tips.
Big Daddy’s BBQ also won the 2011 American Express and Facebook Big Break Contest. We won $20,000 and were flown to the Facebook Headquarters in Palo Alto, California where we received social media training directly from Facebook employees. As a result, we were able to expand and double the space at our Gary location. In the summer of 2013, Big Daddy’s BBQ opened our second location in Hammond, IN! God has truly blessed our business, and his favor is on our lives. Seek him first, pray, and think BIG. You too will have your own story to tell.
